Today the Japanese Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association, which organizes Tokyo Game Show, concluded the 2022 edition with the traditional award ceremony of the Future Division of the Japan Game Awards.

10 games were selected via an online vote by users between September 15 and September 17, representing the most anticipated among the titles coming down the line.

Today Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse revealed a brand new video of its upcoming new action RPG Zenless Zone Zero.

This time around, the video is very extensive, clocking at eighteen minutes of content, and presenting both storytelling and plenty of gameplay.

Developed by Kuro Game, who’s best known for releasing Punishing: Gray Raven on mobile devices, Wuthering Waves is an open-world RPG that features that same hack-and-slash combat PGR players will be familiar with as well. The game features a beautiful anime aesthetic not dissimilar to that of Genshin Impact and Tower of Fantasy, but with a much grittier sci-fi vibe.

We already know that Hideo Kojima and the folks over at Kojima Productions are working on a new game, though we’ve yet to see what it actually is. And while Kojima himself might’ve stated that there won’t be any new games on display at Tokyo Game Show this year, that doesn’t mean that there won’t necessarily be any new announcements.

Case in point, a rather cryptic poster has just shown up on the official Kojima Productions webpage. It shows up a woman’s silhouette with the caption “Who am I?” and it could very well be a tease for a potential character or cast reveal for the studio’s next game.

Following the official reveal at Tokyo Game Show 2021, Koei Tecmo released a new trailer for Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream.

We get pretty much what it says on the tin, with an animated cutscene starring Sophie herself and Plachta.

Today 110 Industries Hosted a Presentation at Tokyo Games Show 2021, showcasing some of its upcoming games.

The first is Wanted: Dead, described as a third-person shooter/slasher by the creator of Ninja Gaiden and Dead or Alive. It’s coming in 2022 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Earlier today during the Square Enix Presents Tokyo Game Show 2021 stream, the dungeon-crawling title Dungeon Encounters was revealed. This is the first game that Director Hiroyuki Ito (FFVI, IX, XII) will be heading up in quite a few years.

Dungeon Encounters appears to have a fairly simplistic aesthetic with a flat, almost textureless ground that a 3D character moves through. Each square space in a dungeon is blank until the player character takes a step there and then it fills in the space.

In July of this year, during an event called Yu-Gi-Oh! Digital Next, we covered a whole slew of (you guessed it) Yu-Gi-oh game reveals. The biggest of which was Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel. Now today, during Konami’s Tokyo Game Show 2021 stream, the hosts of the Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel segment gave a release window of this winter. Not very specific, but winter promises a release not too far in the future.

The main thing to note (aside from the release date) is that it would be nearly impossible to avoid this game. Master Duel will be releasing on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S. Switch, PC, iOS, and Android. Konami is really aiming to get this in front of absolutely anyone who wants to play it.

We have now gotten a new official look at RPG TIme: The Legend of Wright since it was revealed back at E3 2019. The game is being developed by two-person Japanese dev team DESK WORKS.

The adorable papercraft game will be coming to Xbox One, Series S/X, and PC this winter. The website for the game also notes that it will be coming to Android and iOS devices. This winter is certainly a vague stretch of time, but the game has been somewhat dormant the last two years and the trailer shows a cute reemergence. Our previous coverage of RPG Time: The Legend of Wright during E3 2019 noted a release date of 2020, so there has been a slight delay.

It’s that time of year already, and the Tokyo Game Show has come and gone again. As usual, TGS served up a bevy of announcements and new trailers for some of the hottest games coming out of Japan in the not-too-distant future.

TGS 2020 was a little different, being presented as a series of live streams and showcases instead of a physical event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The games themselves, however, did not disappoint. Let’s take a look at some of the very best titles shown, in no particular order.

The nature of this project has not been explained besides the fact that it’s a return of the franchise in some way to commemorate Sega’s 60th anniversary.

SNK’s popular fighting game Samurai Shodown is coming to Xbox Series X/S. The announcement comes by way of a new trailer shown during today’s Tokyo Game Show 2020 livestream.

For the uninitiated, Samurai Shodown (known as Samurai Spirits in Japan) launched last year for current generation consoles, marking the first release in the series for 10 years. It was essentially a revival of the cult classic weapon-based fighting game, which is set in 18th century Japan.

Square Enix offered a new look at its upcoming Definitive Edition of 2017’s acclaimed RPG Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age today as part of the Tokyo Game Show 2020 digital event.

The trailer showcases the new character side stories, retro 2D mode, Japanese and English audio,16-bit World of Tickington, and other enhancements.

The name “Asobu” in Japanese conveys the concept of “playing,” but now it’s also the name of an initiative to support local independent developers and games.

The initiative aims to”help the indie scene in Japan grow and thrive both
domestically and abroad through a mix of developer outreach, information sharing and networking, evangelism, consultation, and promotional / educational events.”

The Japanese CESA announced the lineup of developers that will broadcast at  Tokyo Game Show, which will be hosted exclusively online this year.

Besides Square Enix and Koei Tecmo, which already announced detailed line-ups, the list of livestreams is pretty long.

Final Fantasy VII Remake

It seems like it was just recently that we saw the Final Fantasy VII Remake’s big showing at E3 2019, but Square Enix wasn’t satisfied to just sit on their laurels. Tokyo Game Show just a few months later had just as impressive of a showing for the Final Fantasy VII Remake, giving us a hot new trailer and plenty of gameplay for the JRPG.

The latest trailer gave us a good look at Shinra characters in the remake, like Reno, Rude, and Tseng. There were even a couple of big surprises with brand new events, like 7th Heaven being attacked, and a brand new SOLDIER character.

The trailers shown at Tokyo Game Show this year were incredible, and they gave us a tantalizing taste of some of the hottest games coming to us from Japanese developers.

The Tokyo Game Show 2019 has formally concluded yesterday, bringing an end to a four-day convention which highlighted the best and brightest new video games coming to the region. Organizer Computer Entertainment Supplier’s Association (CESA) has today provided information on attendance numbers, showing record growth in some areas and a slight drop off in others.
