In preparation for the highly-anticipated release of Starfield, the game’s director, Todd Howard, geared up for its launch during the 2023 Gamescom event, featuring new and updated gameplay footage. Fans quickly noticed a significant change in the graphics, specifically with an older elevator scene that has been completely revamped.

Reddit user MartinTheTrue was able to show the differences between the official gameplay reveal in 2022 and the newest version at the convention. While the previous snippet depicts a slightly darker ambiance, the Gamescom footage brings more life into the scene through its illuminated lighting and realistic facial expressions.

The latest trailer for A44 Games and Kepler Interactive’s upcoming ARPG, Flintlock: Siege of Dawn, has surfaced as part of the Gamescom festivities today, and it does a great job to showcase the slick combat mechanics that have put the game firmly on our radar since its debut presentation earlier this year.

If you’re not yet up to speed with the game, Flintlock fuses magic gunpowder-wielding as Nor and her fully voiced foxlike companion, Enki, team up to prevail against the Gods. The story takes place in a barren world flooded by tides of undead, where “players must combine the might of Nor’s destructive axe and flintlock weaponry with Enki’s mysterious mystical abilities.” You can read more over on the game’s Steam Page.

One of the more highly anticipated games for fans of magic is Portkey Games’ Hogwarts Legacy. Casting players in the role of a student studying at Hogwarts, there will be choices to make that can have a profound impact on how the narrative unfolds. A new trailer at Gamescom Opening Night Live for Hogwarts Legacy touched upon this mechanic, focusing on the companion Sebastian Sallow.

While there isn’t any gameplay, The Lords of the Fallen is still clearly a Souls-like just like the first game.

Gamescom 2022 is less than a week away, and Dying Light 2 Stay Human is one title that is set to make a big announcement at the show. Today, though, developer Techland is jumping the gun with a quick teaser of what’s to come.

In a brief sequence, two humans are seen are fighting it out in what appears to be a new arena-style location named Carnage Hall. One of the humans wins the fight, and the trailer ends with the victor grabbing a very ominous-looking skeletal piece as their prize.

Today Microsoft announced its lineup and schedule for Gamescom 2022, which will be hosted in a couple of weeks in Cologne, Germany.

The massive Xbox booth in Hall 8 will return this year, including the following games from Xbox Game Studios.

Arcadian Atlas

Arcadian Atlas has to be on the radar of any tactical-RPG fan from the late 90s and early 2000s. Inspired by classics such as Tactics Orge and Final Fantasy Tactics, Arcadian Atlas has always looked good on paper since its Kickstarter a few years ago, but as we know, on-paper doesn’t always translate to actual success, especially in the TRPG world. Fortunately, Arcadian Atlas appears to be delivering on its promises and has continued to look impressive as more content is released. At the Awesome Indies showcase at Gamescom 2021, Arcadian Atlas released a new trailer (watch here) that stepped up the intrigue on two of the critical portions of any good TRPG: the classes and the story.

We got a taste of Arcadian Atlas’ mature story. As you can see in the picture above, the game isn’t going to pull any punches when it comes to murder and political drama. There was also a look at eight of the twelve+ classes that are planned for Arcadian Atlas and they all look wonderful and distinct from each other. It should be a blast putting together a strategic force comprised of very different combat styles.

Showcased at Gamescom 2021 this week, Loopmancer is a new action-platformer from developer Ebrain Studio. The game features swords, gunplay, and a cyberpunk aesthetic that’s help bolstered by Unreal Engine. Plus, you’re a private detective reborn with bionic prosthetics, so what’s there not to like? Cantata, a very unique-looking tactical-RPG from developer Afterschool Studios, just released its first gameplay trailer at Gamescom 2021, giving players a peek at this fresh take on the genre.

The game uses a grid-like style where players can move a certain amount of spaces to engage enemies and objectives. Fog of war is present, and players will need to be careful about where they tread it seems. It’s difficult to get a feel of what exactly is going on without developers explaining, but there’s definitely some trademark TRPG gameplay at work here.
