Every year, anime just seems to keep getting better. Whether it’s an adaptation of everyone’s favorite action manga or a Netflix original slice-of-life, there’s something solid to watch for both casual and hardcore viewers alike.

Thankfully, 2023 is turning out to be another crazy year for the genre, as there’s already been a boatload of new and returning anime announced. With that in mind, we’ve gone ahead and detailed just about everything you could ever need regarding releases for the coming year, including a handful of debut anime that are airing for the first time.

You’ll see each upcoming anime broken down by release dates and windows, as well as special movies and titles that are assumed to come out within the year. Lastly, the titles in bold are the ones that are seen as the most highly anticipated of the bunch, so be sure to keep an eye out for those.

Summary: The 2023 anime season started off with quite a bang, capped off with the absolute juggernaut that was Attack on Titan‘s final season premiere. We also got to enjoy some holdovers from 2022, including My Hero Academia and the surprisingly gripping Blue Lock.

If you were looking for something a little more off the beaten path, the romantic comedy Tomo-Chan is a Girl! comes as highly recommended, and we will not accept any further slander being levied in the direction of Trigun Stampede. As jarring as the CGI visuals might be at first glance, it quickly becomes second nature, and the characterization and narrative are not just rehashes of what worked 30 years ago.

For our money (made up of mostly zeni and woolongs), the standout effort came from MAPPA’s follow-up to Vinland Saga. Thorfinn’s struggles in an oppressive world make for top level storytelling, and we would even daresay that it transcends the limitations of animation. If only Hollywood wasn’t so preoccupied with the same rotation of Disney fare, it would most certainly be spoken of with national reverence.

Summary: To think that spring’s offerings aren’t quite as bountiful as what we got in winter is an absolute fallacy, keeping in mind that the return of Demon Slayer alone is practically enough to carry an entire season. We had also pegged Dr. Stone Season 3 and Konosuba as heavy hitters, and both proved to be absolute delights, providing the delicious chaos of chemistry and/or wizardry in equal measure.

With that said, Hell’s Paradise is a late elevation to the coveted “bold text status”, because it will absolutely resurface in the anime of the year discussion when all is said and done. The quest of Gabimaru the Hollow to procure the Elixir of Life is a brutal, bloody affair that makes the wait for each new episode practically exhausting.

On the other end of the spectrum, Ranking of Kings: The Treasure Chest of Courage has been so mirthful, bridging the gap from season 1’s surprisingly grim tale of chivalry with much lower stakes. This is more character building than must-see content, but considering how lovable those characters happen to be, we’re really not complaining.

Lastly, Mashle is sneaky good, dishing out some of the best laughs of 2023. On paper, it is One Punch Man + Harry Potter, but the actual application of this formula really pays off in unexpected ways.

Summary: Yes, we see it, too. Jujutsu Kaisen and Bleach in the same season. With these two titans vying for the top spot, there’s still plenty of room for the rest of the lineup to impress.

Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 delivers more exquisite storytelling and worldbuilding, though your mileage may vary depending on how insufferable you find Rudeus at the center of it all. If prior efforts are any indication, Bungo Stray Dogs is a dark horse contender for anime of the season. If you haven’t delved into it yet, there’s still plenty of time to catch up!

Additionally, summer is a great season for things to get weird. Between The Masterful Cat is Depressed Again Today and Reborn as a Vending Machine, Now I Wander the Dungeon, those with a fondness for the bizarre will be well catered to.

Let’s also keep an eye on Rurouni Kenshin’s reboot. The original was a late 90s classic, and a refresh could be just what it needs to be introduced to a new generation.

Summary: The genre-breaking Spy x Family carries the flag for fall, a year after Anya Forger became the hottest new chibi in all of anime. The touching Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is also being touted as one of the season’s most anticipated anime.

We’ll have a better idea of how things pan in once we proceed later into the autumn months. As a point of interest, fall 2022 was absolutely stacked, with highlights including Bocchi the Rock!, Mob Psycho 100 III, and of course, the vulgar yet intoxicating Chainsaw Man.

Don’t see one of your favorites on the list? Be sure to let us know in the comments section, and we will be sure to keep updating it accordingly as new anime are announced in 2023.

[30
199349,1251,180599,226
196240
194382
Winter 2023
